Progressive Democrats of America Blog: Frank Schaeffer: I’m Now a ‘Liberal’ Because I’m a Conservative

Can't quite work up the energy to be outraged by another one of Frank's rants. They all run together after a while. The self-flagellation, the smears of his father and anyone he associated with, the barely concealed desire to be credited for his "growth."

I will say this as someone who followed Frank's work closely for many years: He may have changed directions but he's still a lot the same. His shtick now is to portray himself as a whole new person. But at some point you realize he's just found a new niche to exploit. The liberal rapture came for Frank and he is so pleased to be one of the elect! He's not so different than the people he despises. Not really.

Rather than reach out and try to share some of his new found enlightenment -- he really is a smart man -- Frank prefers to bludgeon everyone who is what he says he once was. As a Christian he was dead-set against "those people" the ones ruining America. As a liberal, he is still dead-set against "those people" the ones he writes about above. He changed sides in the culture wars, but he hasn't changed all that much.

He doesn't want them to change. He wants them to fail. He wants them to suffer.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, Frank Schaeffer for all that you are doing to enlighten people. I have been at my wits end as a Christian trying to convince others that may not particularly believe that Christians are NOT suppose to act like these people. Jesus would never turn anyone away. They would look down on him if he was here today, because he would be counseling and helping those of us that are unfortunate, whether it would be losing jobs, or healthcare issues. Many of the conservatives today covet money. That's their real God. And that's not a judgment, it's a fact.

Thank you for a wonderful and inspiring explanation of your views as a former participant in the far-right's behaviors to rear their nihilistic ideology. You have clarified how and why their leadership spreads such vitriol. You are a credit to all of us and our country. I will look for your opinion pieces in more columns as your thoughts are enlightening and news worthy, NMHO.
