Regardless how old you are you should know that "tid-bit".

What i can not understand is how the Republicans could go along with that "Bill" because buried deep within it was the beginning of the end of the fiscal foundation of Social Securty's Medicare Program.

How did that happen? Well prior to Mr. Johnson's Social Securtiy Program intervention, the monies deducted from everyones pay for The Program (of another name at that time) was "Fensed" such that no one nor nothing could touch those monies set-aside for all the needs of the Poor and the Families suffering from economic down turns.

But Mr. Johnson and the Democrats and the Republicans with the twisted arms (by Johnson) removed that "fense" which contained BILLIONS of DOLLORS (in 1965 dollars which equalls TRILLIONS of DOLLARS in the TWENTY FIRST CENTURY) allowing the MBO to balance the budgets, Congressmen and Senators (both sides of the Isle) shoved their hands and arms deep into the "kiity" year after year thereafter to support their "Pork Barrel" hunger at the cost of Social Security!

Now you have a better picture of the results of the Great Society of Mr. Johnson... Its only good was the good it provided for the ethnic group up 'till then referred to as "Colored" to be come reconized by the heritage as African-Americans and therafter referred to as "Blacks"... finally, as well as their economic relief !

Re: Subsidies for Wal-Mart, but Not for Working Moms

Excellent distinction that subsidizing big business, corporations, war (military industrial complex) with our tax dollars is O.K., but when it comes to helping out the working people when in need is not.
And many working people pay more taxes than corporations due to the corporate loopholes.

The priorities are out of whack! These Republicans and Blue Dog Dems are out to protect their pockets, cronies -- big business at any cost. They need to keep funding their relection from these big corporate thieves! They are BIG TIME conservatives without a conscience!

Re: Subsidies for Wal-Mart, but Not for Working Moms

As I look at all the hoopla on TV about health care, I couldn't figure out why Dem legislators can't stand together for the "public option" even in light of the fact that a majority of Americans want it included. Your article, unfortunately, makes sense. The idea that it's who the subsidy is intended for makes the difference. It's unfortunate and it appears our government has abandoned its citizens so it can take care of corporations. I guess I'm quite disillusioned with the Democratic party and will probably switch back to supporting progressive third parties, since it's apparent that the Dem party have been bought.
